Rome Metro C
Client: Metro C S.p.A.
Year: 2010 – 2014
Metro C is the first underground line to be built in Rome (Italy) for almost 30 years. The line started operating in 2015, and will eventually cover 31 stations stretching along the East-West axis of the Italian capital. Roma Metropolitane and Metro C SpA commissioned Steer Davies Gleave to develop station wayfinding and passenger information for the new service. Our scope covered the development of a wayfinding strategy and design of a unified family of sign products to complement the line-wide brand identity.
We worked closely with the architectural and engineering teams, to deliver full sign schedules for the first 22 stations, including information planning, sign location and content for all signs and structures and supported the client team through the implementation of the signage system.
We also delivered a full wayfinding manual including design guidelines setting out rules for sign positioning, colour, font and sizing, station naming, a bespoke family of pictograms and line diagrams.
